Multi-talented artiste Teyana Taylor has returned to the music scene with a groundbreaking visual album, ESCAPE ROOM and the accompanying short film has already crossed 1 million views on YouTube, a milestone that highlights the project’s cultural resonance.
Released on August 22, 2025, ESCAPE ROOM marks Taylor’s first studio album in five years and serves as a deeply personal exploration of heartbreak, healing, and transformation. The 22-track project blends R&B, Afro-fusion, and experimental sounds while weaving in spoken-word interludes from Hollywood powerhouses including Taraji P. Henson, Kerry Washington, Regina King, Issa Rae, Niecy Nash, Sarah Paulson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and La La Anthony.
The album also features collaborations with Jill Scott, Tyla, Lucky Daye, and Kaytranada, as well as a heartfelt contribution from Taylor’s daughters Rue Rose and Junie Shumpert on the closing track, ALWAYS.
At the heart of ESCAPE ROOM lies its striking short film, conceived, directed, and produced by Taylor under her all-female production company, The Aunties. Described as a post-apocalyptic noir romance thriller, the film stars Taylor alongside Aaron Pierre and LaKeith Stanfield, delivering a cinematic experience that mirrors the album’s emotional arc. From haunting bridal tableaux to fiery, fashion-forward visuals, the film has been praised for its artistry, storytelling, and bold vision.
The achievement of surpassing one million views within days of its release underscores Taylor’s ability to resonate with audiences on multiple levels as a singer, songwriter, director, and cultural storyteller.
With ESCAPE ROOM, Taylor isn’t simply releasing music, she’s crafting a world that invites listeners and viewers into her personal journey of struggle, resilience, and rebirth. The project not only reaffirms her place in music but also solidifies her as a formidable creative force in film and culture.
