African music is set to take center stage in New York City this September as Tyla and Ayra Starr officially join the star-studded lineup for the 2025 Global Citizen Festival. The two Afropop sensations will perform alongside international heavyweights including Shakira and The Weeknd, promising an unforgettable celebration of music and activism.

The annual festival, known for its fusion of global entertainment and social justice, will take place at its iconic home in Central Park. This year’s edition will be hosted by longtime Global Citizen ambassador and Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman.

For Tyla, fresh off the global success of her Grammy-winning single WATER and her platinum-selling debut album, this appearance marks another milestone on her rapid international ascent. Ayra Starr, known for her soulful vocals and Afropop anthems like RUSH and BLOODY SAMARITAN continues to expand her global footprint, most recently with performances across Europe and her growing presence on Billboard charts.

The Global Citizen Festival has consistently used its platform to amplify urgent issues such as poverty, climate change, gender equity, and access to education. This year’s theme is expected to reinforce that mission, with performances and appearances by world leaders, changemakers, and cultural icons.

With Tyla and Ayra Starr on the bill, African music’s global influence will be front and center — adding new energy and cultural richness to one of the year’s most impactful global stages.
