Ghana’s creative community is mourning the loss of veteran actor William Addo passed away on 22nd November 2025. He was 76.

William Addo was a towering figure in Ghanaian theatre and film, remembered for his remarkable versatility, comic brilliance and the effortless way he brought characters to life. His work spanned decades from the early days of stage drama to mainstream Ghanaian movies, cementing his place as one of the most recognisable faces in local entertainment.

Affectionately called Akpatsɛ, he captured the hearts of audiences with roles that blended humour, wisdom and cultural insight. His performances in classics across Ghanaian cinema made him both a household name and a mentor to younger actors who admired his craft, discipline and humility.

Over the years, William Addo also battled health challenges, including glaucoma and vision impairment, yet continued to inspire many with his resilience and unwavering love for the arts. His journey embodied dedication, perseverance and an unbreakable passion for storytelling.
