President John Dramani Mahama has appointed iconic Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe as the country’s new Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain. The announcement comes via an official letter dated June 21st, 2025, signed by Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
The appointment is part of a broader diplomatic reshuffle involving 15 new envoys, including ambassadors, high commissioners, and the consul-general designate. At 58 years old, Kalsoume Sinare becomes the fifth Ghanaian and third woman to hold the ambassadorial position in Spain.
Best known for her breakout roles in Out of Sight, Out of Love (1993), Babina, Trinity, and Sala, Kalsoume Sinare’s film career spans nearly four decades and over 300 productions. She is a recipient of multiple honors, including the Golden Actress Award in 2017.
Adding to her cultural influence are strong academic credentials: a Master’s in International Relations & Diplomacy from GIMPA, a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration, and certificates in Cultural Diplomacy and AfCFTA implementation. As CEO of Farikals Productions, she holds business interests across healthcare, construction, trade, and entertainment.
Kalsoume Sinare also has a history of public service, having served on the Ghana Tourism Board, and is a known supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Her transition from screen legend to diplomat highlights Ghana’s growing recognition of the arts and creative sectors in shaping national identity and driving international relations. Her appointment is expected to strengthen cultural and economic ties with Spain, spanning tourism, trade, renewable energy, and collaborations within the Ghanaian diaspora.
Kalsoume Sinare joins other notable appointees, including Kojo Bonsu (Ambassador to China) and Nii Amasah Namoale (Ambassador to Brazil), as part of the administration’s push for inclusive and strategic diplomatic engagement.
