Afrobeats superstar Wizkid unveiled his powerful new documentary, Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, at the Tribeca Film Festival’s Spotlight+ series this week, captivating audiences with an intimate portrayal that celebrates his roots and rise to global fame.

Directed by Karam Gill and produced alongside Daniel Malikyar, the 83‑minute film tracks Wizkid’s journey from the streets of Lagos to the grandeur of London’s Tottenham Stadium. Through raw behind‑the‑scenes moments, electrifying live performances, and thoughtful commentary, the documentary underscores how his dedication and artistry have reshaped perceptions of African music worldwide.

The story is enriched by candid interviews with key figures close to Wizkid, Grammy-winning Afrobeat icon Femi Kuti, longtime partner and music manager Jada Pollock, media guru Julie Adenuga, manager Sunday Are, and stylist Matthew Temitope, among others.

Premiering on June 6th, the film featured a post-screening Q&A with Wizkid himself and director Gill, allowing fans an inside glimpse into the creative journey and cultural vision behind the project.

The screening solidified Wizkid’s status not just as an award-winning performer but as a global creative force deeply connected to his heritage and committed to shaping African narratives on the world stage. The film, under the banner of HBO Documentary Films, spotlights not only his storied past but also his influence in redefining African music’s global footprint.
