3 Music Women's Brunch

The highly anticipated 3Music Women's Brunch for 2024 made a triumphant return, illuminating the extraordinary women who have left an indelible mark on Ghana's creative industry. Celebrated for their resilience and achievements, these exceptional women took center stage in an event perfectly aligned with International Women's Day, serving as a powerful tribute to their greatness.

This spectacular affair was brought to life by the visionary CEO of 3Media Networks, Madam Rashidatu Yasmine Abdulai, and co-executive produced by the dynamic Whitney Boakye–Mensah. The charismatic Lerny Lomotey from 3Music TV served as the event's host, and the entire spectacle was broadcast on 3Music TV on March 8, 2024.

Madam Rashida Abdulai, in her opening speech, expressed her enthusiasm for the inclusive spirit driving the brunch. She highlighted the event's role in amplifying the voices of women across the industry, aligning seamlessly with the theme of International Women's Day. She reiterated her steadfast commitment to ensuring women are represented and empowered within the industry and beyond, marking the women's brunch as a significant effort in this ongoing mission.

Executive producer Whitney Boakye-Mensah added her remarks, applauding the honorees and women in general. Emphasizing the 2024 International Women's Day theme of inspiring inclusion, she called for collective efforts to create an inclusive world that empowers, includes, and uplifts women.

The pinnacle of the event was an engaging conversation with six illustrious women: Edinam Korkor Atatsi, Yvonne Ohene Djan, Oheneyere Gifty Anti, Osafohene Dr. Afua Asabea Asare I, Veronica Quarshie-Nai, and the extraordinary host, Lerny Lomotey. The event also featured captivating performances by Yvonne Ohene Djan, who electrified the atmosphere by showcasing her contributions to numerous songs in the past, including hits from Samini, Ofori Amponsah, Daddy Lumba, Lord Kenya, Borax, Ohemaa Mercy, and Kwabena Kwabena, among several others.

The conversation delved deep into the life journeys of these exceptional women. Yvonne Ohene Djan, also known as SHE, expressed her gratitude for being celebrated among accomplished women. She recounted her discovery in church at the age of eight and how her journey in music began at 12 when she recorded her first professional song at Alhaji Sidi Ku Buari's studio.

Osafohene Dr. Afua Asabea Asare shared her entrepreneurial journey that began at the age of 5, expressing her keen interest in trading and her love for entrepreneurship. Edinam Atatsi reminisced about her days in Osu, where her interest in film developed, leading her into acting, television, and film.

Oheneyere Gifty Anti recounted her acting days at GBC during her internship, highlighting the role of divine intervention in landing her a part in the show, despite being initially assigned as a floor manager. Madam Veronica Quarshie Nai's journey stemmed from utilizing her film director skills, collaborating with a male director, and making a name for herself in a male-dominated industry during a time when there were very few women in the field.

These remarkable women shared insights on thriving in industries dominated by men, emphasizing the importance of focus, determination, and eschewing overly feminine characteristics to gain respect.

They also shared their thoughts on mentorship and leaving a legacy for women on the rise. Oheneyere Gifty Anti emphasized the need to turn negative reactions and experiences into positive pursuits, using challenges as fuel to achieve more and become better versions of themselves. She encouraged women to support each other, regardless of the difficulties they may face under female supervision and mentorship.

Addressing the point of realization regarding their success, SHE pointed to her contributions on songs like OTOOLEGE by Ofori Amponsah and some songs by Daddy Lumba amomgst others as pivotal moments that sparked the realization to appreciate and take her life seriously. For Edinam Atatsi, it was the stage, not film, that brought her to the realization that she was well on her way.

These remarkable women served as the faces of the 2024 3Music Women's Brunch, embodying hope, empowerment, and fortitude for the next generation of women, showcasing the impactful role of women in society.
