Founder and Creative Director of Bloom Iris Agency, Doris Gedza, says empowering women must go beyond conversations to include practical opportunities that help them achieve financial independence.
Speaking on Culture Daily, Gedza highlighted the vision behind BloomHer, a women-focused brunch and workshop designed to provide participants with both skills training and business knowledge.
According to her, financial independence remains one of the biggest barriers preventing many women from making decisions that prioritise their growth and wellbeing.
“Empowering women shouldn’t just end with conversations or putting women in a room together. It should transform into something meaningful,” she said. “One thing that keeps women out of certain spaces is financial independence.”
The BloomHer event aims to tackle this challenge by equipping women with practical skills that can be turned into sustainable income streams. Training sessions will include crochet, nail art and bead and jewellery making, facilitated by female-led businesses and professionals.
Beyond the practical workshops, the event will also feature a panel discussion themed “From Skills to Income: The Business Side of Your Talent.” The discussion will explore how women can monetise their talents and maintain sustainable sources of income.
The panel will feature several industry figures, including digital creator Juliana Amoateng, food content creator Chef Lifestyle and entrepreneur Adjoa Tee.
Gedza explained that the long-term vision for BloomHer is to expand the initiative beyond a single event.
“This is just the first edition. We hope that the women who attend will develop these skills, master them and eventually train others as well,” she said.
She added that future editions could take place simultaneously across multiple communities, allowing more women to benefit from the initiative.
