Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy, has revealed that it took an estimated $4 million to $5 million in strategic investment to transform Rema’s chart-topping single CALM DOWN into a global phenomenon.
Speaking in a recent interview on Toolz’s Bounce series, the veteran producer explained that while Afrobeats is rapidly expanding across international markets, breaking a song on a global scale requires significant financial commitment, infrastructure and long-term strategy.
According to Don Jazzy, Mavin Records invested heavily in global marketing, international promotions, digital amplification and strategic partnerships to position CALM DOWN for worldwide impact. He emphasised that once the track gained traction locally and across Africa, the label doubled down on international rollout to ensure the record reached new territories.
The investment ultimately paid off. CALM DOWN became one of the biggest Afrobeats songs in history, achieving massive chart success, unprecedented streaming numbers and widespread acclaim, especially following the release of the Selena Gomez-assisted remix, which propelled it into new global markets.
He noted that while talent and great music are essential, significant resources are needed to sustain global visibility and push a record from regional success to worldwide dominance.
