Edem Pleads With Government For Permanent Solution To Tidal Waves In Volta Region
Ayigbe Edem
Ghanaian musician Denning Edem Hotor, popularly known as Ayigbe Edem, has made a heartfelt appeal to the government to implement a permanent solution to the recurring tidal waves affecting the Volta Region. His plea comes in the wake of recent tidal surges that have devastated communities such as Salakope, Agavedzi, and other coastal areas in the Ketu South Municipality.

In a live social media session, Edem expressed deep concern over the continuous destruction caused by these tidal waves, stating, “The sea is taking our lands; we need a permanent solution.” He urged President John Dramani Mahama and other authorities to prioritize and address this pressing issue.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) reported that the recent tidal waves have displaced 519 individuals from 101 households across three communities within the Ketu South Municipality.   Specifically, in Agavedzi, the waves destroyed 51 houses, leaving over 300 residents homeless.

Local authorities, including Ebenezer Assah, the Assembly Member for the Agavedzi Electoral Area, have called for immediate government intervention to prevent further destruction and displacement.

The affected communities are appealing for the completion of the sea defense project, which has been identified as a crucial measure to protect the coastline from further erosion and flooding.

As the situation escalates, the urgency for a sustainable and lasting solution becomes increasingly critical to safeguard the livelihoods and properties of residents in the Volta Region
