Nigerian content creator and musician Nasboi has opened up about the emotional pressure that came with fame, revealing that he battled depression and anxiety despite his growing success in entertainment.
Speaking on The Culture Daily on 3Music TV during his visit to Ghana, the entertainer said last year was one of the most difficult periods of his life, even though his career looked successful publicly.
“For the media, it was a good year. For me, it wasn’t. It felt like my most horrible year in the last six years,” he said.
Nasboi explained that the pressure of balancing comedy, music and public expectations affected his mental health heavily.
“I started feeling empty. My name started becoming bigger than my money,” he added.
The comedian, who built his brand through skit-making before expanding into music, also spoke about struggling with confidence and shyness despite becoming popular across Nigeria.
“From a scale of one to ten, I used to be like really shy. Like eleven,” he said.
According to him, his anxiety became worse because of the constant pressure to stay relevant online and produce content regularly.
“There’s no day in my life that I’m not thinking. Even when I’m out on dates, I’m thinking,” he said.
Nasboi also criticised the growing culture of chasing virality in entertainment media, saying some interviews are edited to create controversy and engagement online.
He recalled how comments he made about Nigerian superstar Davido were taken out of context and circulated online.
“The blogs can actually ruin you. Everybody is trying to chase clout,” he said.
The entertainer revealed that he experiences anxiety attacks frequently and often wakes up worried about what people may be saying about him online.
Despite the struggles, Nasboi said he has learned to manage the pressure by slowing down and becoming more intentional about his mental health.
“I became my friend. I had to start sitting with myself often,” he said.
He added that he now prioritises peace, personal growth, and financial stability over public pressure.
