Hon. Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, has stated that the government will not allocate funds to send fans to the FIFA World Cup 2026, emphasizing instead the need to prioritize essential infrastructure projects.

In an interview on Peace FM, the Minister made it clear that government resources should focus on building and maintaining facilities that benefit the country as a whole, rather than covering the personal travel expenses of football fans.

“We cannot use taxpayers’ money to fund trips for fans. Our priority is infrastructure that serves everyone - sports facilities, roads and other projects that have long-term value” he said.

However, he reassured fans that the government could assist with travel documents such as visas and passports for those determined to make the journey.

The statement comes amid growing excitement among Ghanaian football supporters as the World Cup approaches, with many expressing interest in traveling abroad to cheer for the national team. While some fans had hoped for government-sponsored trips, Hon. Kofi Adams’ comments make it clear that individuals will bear the financial responsibility.

This decision aligns with the government’s broader focus on prudent spending and infrastructure development, ensuring public funds are directed toward projects with lasting impact for Ghanaians.
