The world of Panem is set to welcome back familiar faces as Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson officially confirm their return for the upcoming film THE HUNGRY GAMES: SUNRISES ON THE REAPING.This announcement has sent waves of excitement through fans of the franchise, nearly a decade after the conclusion of the original series.

Sunrise on the Reaping is a prequel adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same name, which explores the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, set 24 years before the events of the original trilogy. While the story primarily follows new characters, Lawrence and Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, likely appearing in sequences that tie the prequel to the original narrative.

Returning behind the camera is director Francis Lawrence, who helmed four of the previous Hunger Games films. Billy Ray adapts the screenplay, with producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson continuing their involvement in guiding the franchise forward.

The film’s cast promises a mix of established stars and fresh faces, including Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier, and Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, alongside newcomers like McKenna Grace, Maya Hawke and Whitney Peak.

THE HUNGRY GAMES: SUNRISES ON THE REAPING is slated for a November 20, 2026 release, giving fans plenty of time to revisit the dystopian world that captured global attention. The original franchise grossed over $3.3 billion worldwide, cementing its status as a cultural phenomenon. The return of Lawrence and Hutcherson adds a layer of nostalgia while bridging the new narrative to the series’ iconic legacy.

As anticipation builds, Sunrise on the Reaping promises to blend fresh storytelling with familiar faces, offering both longtime fans and new audiences a thrilling journey back into Panem.
