Ghana’s Acting Rent Commissioner, Frederick Opoku, has stated that landlords have grounds to evict tenants who regularly bring multiple sexual partners to rented properties.
Speaking in an interview on Neat FM, Opoku outlined several behaviours that can justify eviction under the country’s rent laws. These include failing to pay rent even for one month, keeping the premises excessively dirty, selling unauthorised medicine, and hosting multiple male or female partners at the property.
“Also, if you bring multiple men or women into the house, you can be evicted,” Opoku said.
He linked the provision to cultural considerations, noting that children often learn from the behaviour of adults in the home.
Opoku stressed that paying rent alone does not give tenants unrestricted rights. He emphasised that both landlords and tenants must comply with Ghana’s rent regulations and that any eviction must follow the proper legal process through the Rent Control Department or the courts.
The remarks, first reported widely around 22 August 2026, have drawn attention to the balance between tenant privacy and landlords’ rights to protect their properties and the living environment of other residents.
