This accomplishment was recognized by Guinness World Records following the release of the 2019 film Little, which she both pitched and starred in.
Little tells the story of a high-powered tech mogul who is transformed into her 13-year-old self, a concept inspired by the 1988 film Big. Marsai conceived the idea at the age of 10 and presented it to Black-ish creator Kenya Barris. The film was produced by Universal Pictures and featured an all-Black lead cast, including Regina Hall and Issa Rae, and was directed by Tina Gordon.
Born on August 14th, 2004, in Plano, Texas, Marsai Martin began her acting career with a breakout role as Diane Johnson on the ABC sitcom Black-ish (2014–2022). Beyond acting, she founded her own production company, Genius Productions, and signed a first-look deal with Universal Pictures in 2019, making her the youngest person to secure such a deal with any studio.
Marsai’s commitment to representation and storytelling continues to shine through her projects. She has produced and starred in films like Fantasy Football and voiced characters in PAW Patrol: The Movie and its sequel. In 2022, she was named one of Time magazine’s Time 100 Next for her influence in the entertainment industry.
Marsai Martin’s journey exemplifies how imagination, determination, and a commitment to representation can break barriers and inspire a new generation of storytellers.
