Ghanaian entrepreneur and entertainment promoter, Mawuli Gavor, has opened up about a frightening experience he recently endured in Dubai amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking during an interview on Culture Daily, Mawuli described the moment missile strikes began landing near where he was staying.
According to him, the explosions felt like scenes from an action movie. “It felt like an action film. The embassy they bombed was about nine minutes from my hotel,” he said.
Mawuli explained that the experience made him realise how terrifying war situations can be for people living in conflict zones around the world.
After deciding to leave the country, he headed to the airport but was met with chaos as thousands of people attempted to flee.
He shared footage showing huge crowds inside the airport, describing the situation as one of the most stressful moments of his life.
“Before you even get to the check-in line, there are thousands of people. If you don’t move fast, you won’t leave the country,” he said.
According to him, some travellers were even forced to abandon their luggage to make it onto flights. Reflecting on the ordeal, Mawuli said the experience changed how he views conflicts happening across the world.
He noted that many people often underestimate the realities faced by those living in war zones. “When you hear about places like Gaza or Ukraine, you think it’s far away until it happens close to you,” he said.
Mawuli eventually managed to secure a flight out and safely return to Ghana. He expressed gratitude for making it home safely, saying the experience reminded him not to take peace for granted.
“It made me realise that nobody chooses to be in the middle of a war. We should be thankful for peace.”
