Ghanaian entrepreneur, Mawuli Gavor, says his events platform Rhythms & Brunch was created to prove that young creatives can build successful experiences without waiting for external support.
Speaking on Culture Daily, Mawuli said the goal of the event series was to show that local promoters can produce world-class events independently.
“We did it to show that young people can come together with almost no help and still make something happen,” he said. The event series has hosted major international artistes including Busta Rhymes, Beanie Man and D’banj during Ghana’s December festivities.
Mawuli revealed that bringing global stars to Ghana can be extremely challenging, particularly due to the detailed technical and personal requirements listed in artistes’ contracts.
He recalled one instance where an artiste insisted on flying in his personal barber before leaving his hotel room. “He said he couldn’t leave the hotel without cutting his hair first, so we had to buy a plane ticket for his barber,” he said.
According to him, such demands can significantly increase the cost of hosting international performers. Beyond events, Mawuli also runs several lifestyle businesses including Cello Restaurant & Bar, which he launched in partnership with his friends to create a more relaxed space for networking and social gatherings.
The restaurant hosts special events including a Sunday buffet experience featuring live music and networking sessions.
Mawuli said the concept is designed to bring people together in a comfortable environment where they can enjoy good food while building meaningful connections.
“We wanted a place where people can enjoy great food, have conversations and still do business,” he explained. The event typically features live performances, curated menus and a relaxed atmosphere aimed at professionals and creatives.
