Ghana’s First Lady, Lordina Mazama, has been recognised by the Merck Foundation for what the organisation described as her impactful humanitarian and health programmes in Ghana.
The recognition was presented during the Merck Foundation Ghana Alumni Summit 2026 held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City on May 19.
Mrs. Mahama was honoured and appointed as the Merck Foundation Ambassador in Ghana in recognition of the work of the Lordina Foundation over the past decade in health care, women empowerment, education and social support programmes.
The recognition was jointly presented by Merck Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Rasha Kelej, and Chairman of the Merck Foundation Board of Trustees, Frank Stangenberg-Haverkamp.
Speaking at the event, Dr Kelej said Mrs Mahama’s humanitarian work had transformed the lives of many vulnerable people through education, health support and women empowerment initiatives.
The Merck Foundation also commended the First Lady for supporting medical training scholarships for Ghanaian doctors through the Lordina Foundation’s partnership with the organisation.
According to the Presidency, about 40 Ghanaian medical professionals have benefited from scholarship opportunities under the collaboration, while more than 110 beneficiaries have received training in creative arts and information communication technology.
Mrs Mahama, in her remarks, expressed gratitude to the Merck Foundation and said the partnership had contributed significantly to healthcare delivery and human resource development in Ghana.
She said the testimonies from beneficiaries of the programme reinforced her commitment to continue supporting initiatives that improve lives and strengthen healthcare systems.
The Merck Foundation, established in 2017, focuses on improving healthcare access, advancing scientific and medical training, supporting girls’ education, and addressing social and health challenges across Africa and Asia.
