In recent hours, unverified reports have been circulating, suggesting that the beloved Nigerian actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has passed away. According to these reports, Mr. Ibu was said to have breathed his last at Evercare Hospital in Lagos. However, it's important to note that neither Mr. Ibu's family nor his representatives have made any official statements regarding his passing.
Details surrounding the cause of death and the reliability of these reports remain uncertain at this time. It should be noted that similar rumors about Mr. Ibu's demise have emerged in the past. According to information from the Nairaland website, the actor is said to have passed away on Saturday, March 2.
Mr. Ibu had been facing health challenges since October 2023, undergoing multiple surgeries that eventually led to the amputation of his leg. However, he received treatment and was discharged from the hospital in early January of this year.
Originally from Nkanu West, Enugu State, Mr. Ibu leaves behind his wife and three children. In a May 2022 interview with the Nigerian Vanguard Newspaper, the comedic actor shared a profound near-death experience, crediting his survival to divine intervention. He described feeling as though he was "seeing people on the other side" but expressed gratitude for being brought back to life by God.
During his interview, Mr. Ibu also revealed that he believed his illness was orchestrated by individuals with malicious intentions towards him and that he was initially unaware of what was happening during his ordeal. Reflecting on the experience, he acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and expressed amazement at still being alive.
As we await official statements from Mr. Ibu's family and representatives, it is important to approach these reports with caution and respect for the privacy of those involved.
