Netflix Debuts Grain Media's Explosive Film Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy on November 20
Buy Now!

Netflix has unveiled its latest groundbreaking documentary, Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy, a compelling exposé on the hidden tactics of global brands that premiered on November 20, 2024. Produced by the award-winning Grain Media and directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Nic Stacey, this eye-opening film pulls back the glossy curtain on consumer culture, exposing how billion-dollar corporations like Apple, Amazon, and Adidas amongst several others manipulate the masses into endless cycles of consumption. But amidst the sharp revelations and subversive storytelling, one name stands out: Sena, the producer and storyteller.

The film is a visually stunning and thought-provoking journey that explores the psychology behind brand loyalty and consumer manipulation. Using high-octane CGI and imagery borrowed from pop culture classics like They Live and The Truman Show, it delves into the darker side of advertising. It showcases how corporations profit not just from your wallet but also from global waste, all while concealing their ecological impact. The documentary’s playful, yet cutting style makes it both entertaining and enlightening, arming viewers with tools to navigate the tricks of the trade.

Sena’s inclusion in the documentary introduces a deeply personal and impactful narrative. As an advocate for sustainable living and upcycling, she provides a unique lens on how consumer habits intersect with environmental and cultural sustainability. Featured prominently in a segment on waste upcycling, Sena shares her transformative work in repurposing discarded materials into functional, fashionable goods. Her contributions highlight how individuals can challenge corporate greed and contribute to a greener, fairer future.

Featuring exclusive interviews with insiders and whistleblowers, Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy exposes how brands exploit psychological tricks to keep consumers hooked. The revelations are startling: from manipulating our choices through deceptive design to fueling societal waste crises under the guise of innovation. For director Nic Stacey, the project was a wake-up call: “I thought I was a well-informed consumer, but the truth is far more troubling,” he admits.

Executive Producer Chloe Leland describes the documentary as both “mischievous and visually striking,” designed to empower viewers rather than provoke guilt. The film doesn't lecture but instead provides actionable insights, encouraging big brands to take responsibility while offering consumers the tools to reclaim control.

With its global premiere on Netflix, Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy has the potential to spark worldwide conversations about ethical consumerism, waste management, and the future of advertising.

This is more than just a film—it's a call to rethink the systems that shape our lives and the world we leave behind.
