Oscar Nominations Delayed Due To Deadly Los Angeles Wildfires

Oscar Nominations Delayed Due To Deadly Los Angeles Wildfires
Oscars
The announcement of this year’s Oscar nominations, originally scheduled for Friday, January 17th, has been delayed by two days due to the deadly wildfires raging across Los Angeles. The nominees for the prestigious awards will now be revealed on Sunday, January 19th, 2025.

The wildfires, which have caused significant damage across Southern California, have also disrupted voting schedules. The nearly 10,000 Academy members now have until Tuesday, January 14th, to cast their votes, following an extension by the Academy.

In a letter sent to members on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025, Academy CEO Bill Kramer expressed his sympathy for those affected by the fires.
Hollywood Stars Affected

The wildfires have taken a toll on many, including celebrities. Former Oscars host Billy Crystal, as well as Paris Hilton, James Woods, and Miles Teller, are among those who have lost their homes to the blaze.

The fires have disrupted Hollywood’s entertainment schedule, forcing the cancellation or postponement of several major events, including movie premieres for Unstoppable, Wolf Man, Robbie Williams’ Better Man, and The Pitt. An event to announce nominees for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards was also canceled, with nominations instead announced via press release. The upcoming movie Wicked leads the SAG nominations.

Despite the disruptions, the 2025 Oscars ceremony is still slated to take place on Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. Conan O’Brien will host the event.

As the wildfires continue to cause devastation, the Academy and the entertainment industry have extended their thoughts and prayers to all those impacted.
