Ghanaian reggae legend and global humanitarian advocate Rocky Dawuni has once again used his voice and his platform to champion the cause of African unity. In a moving and symbolic moment this week, Rocky Dawuni led a solemn prayer for continental peace, solidarity and togetherness at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Standing before the towering bronze statue of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the revered Pan-Africanist and Ghana’s first President, Dawuni delivered a heartfelt message that echoed through the historic grounds. The setting carried profound significance; it was on this very soil that African leaders inaugurated the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, laying the foundation for what is now the African Union.

Dawuni’s prayer came on the 141st anniversary of the Berlin Conference a dark chapter in history when European colonial powers carved up the African continent. Against this backdrop, his call for unity felt both timely and deeply intentional.

In his passionate invocation, he appealed for a borderless Africa, urging citizens and leaders alike to embrace political, cultural and spiritual unity. He spoke of healing old wounds, dismantling colonial borders and rekindling the spirit of oneness that defined Africa’s liberation struggles.

For Rocky Dawuni, this moment served as both homage and prophecy; homage to the continent’s founding fathers who envisioned a strong and united Africa and prophecy for a future where their dream is fully realized. With his head bowed beneath Nkrumah’s outstretched arm, the reggae icon transformed a simple act of prayer into a resonant symbol of hope.

His message challenged Africans everywhere to reimagine the continent not as a mosaic of divided territories, but as a united force rooted in dignity, identity and shared destiny.

Rocky Dawuni’s prayer in Addis Ababa was more than a gesture. It was a call to action, a spiritual awakening, and a reminder that the quest for African unity though long and complex remains alive in the hearts of those still fighting to fulfill its promise.
