Selena Gomez is officially returning to the magical world of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place for its highly anticipated second season. The Disney+ series, a sequel to the beloved Wizards of Waverly Place, has confirmed Gomez will reprise her iconic role as Alex Russo in a special guest appearance.

The announcement came after Selena Gomez teased fans with a behind-the-scenes photo posted on Instagram, showing her holding Alex’s signature red wand with the caption: “Just feels right.” Disney has since confirmed her cameo, sparking excitement among longtime fans of the franchise.

While Selena Gomez will not be a series regular, her role is expected to be meaningful, bridging the original storyline with the next generation of Russo wizards. She previously appeared in the pilot and finale episodes of Season 1, and continues to serve as an executive producer on the series alongside co-star David Henrie, who reprises his role as Justin Russo.

Production for Season 2 is currently underway in Los Angeles, with a fall 2025 release date expected. The new season will follow Billie (played by Janice LeAnn Brown), a young wizard-in-training under Justin’s guidance, as she prepares for the Family Wizard Competition. The stakes are higher this time, as Billie’s brothers Roman and Milo also begin to develop magical abilities, all while a mysterious new threat emerges against the Russo family.

Season 1 of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiered in October 2024 and quickly became one of Disney Channel’s most-watched series, earning over 3.2 million views in under two weeks.

Selena Gomez’s return adds a dose of nostalgia to the series, which blends humor, heart, and magic for a new generation of fans. According to producers, her cameo will serve as a symbolic “passing of the wand,” cementing the series’ commitment to both its roots and its fresh direction.

Fans can expect more magical mishaps, family drama, and familiar faces when Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2 arrives later this year on Disney+.
