The Ministry of the Interior has officially declared Monday, September 21, 2026, a statutory public holiday to mark Founder’s Day.
In a statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the ministry informed the general public that the day should be observed nationwide. The ministry urged Ghanaians to take note of the declaration and make the necessary arrangements ahead of the holiday.
Founder’s Day commemorates the birthday of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and a leading figure in the country’s struggle for independence.
The observance follows the passage of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which restored September 21 as Founder’s Day on the national calendar.
The announcement was issued on Monday, September 14, 2026.
