SZA, the talented singer-songwriter known for hits like LOVE GALORE and GOOD DAYS, is set to receive a prestigious honor from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She will be presented with the Hal David Starlight Award at the 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards dinner in New York City.

The Hal David Starlight Award, named after the late lyricist and SHOF chairman emeritus, is given to young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry with their original songs. SZA joins the ranks of past recipients like Alicia Keys and Halsey, becoming only the second Black woman to receive this honor.

This year’s ceremony will also see legendary songwriter Diane Warren receiving the Johnny Mercer Award, the organization’s top honor. It is a rare occurrence for both the Mercer Award and the Hal David Starlight Award to be presented to female artists, highlighting the incredible talent and contributions of women in the music industry.

SZA’s nomination for the Hal David Starlight Award comes on the heels of her success at the 66th annual Grammy Awards, where she was the most nominated artist with nine nods. She took home three Grammys for her album SOS, solidifying her status as a powerhouse in the music world.

Despite not winning the award for best original song at the Oscars in 2019, SZA’s impact on the music industry cannot be denied. Her unique sound and powerful lyrics have resonated with fans around the world, earning her critical acclaim and accolades.
