Nigerian Grammy-winning star Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, etched her name into football history on Sunday, July 13th, 2025, by becoming the first African artiste to perform at the halftime show of a FIFA Club World Cup final.

The show, held at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, marked the tournament’s inaugural halftime performance. Curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and produced in collaboration with Global Citizen, the segment also featured global icons J Balvin and Doja Cat.

Tems delivered a stirring rendition of her Grammy-winning song Love Me JeJe, captivating a diverse global audience alongside electrifying performances from J Balvin’s Mi Gente and Doja Cat’s Woman.

The halftime spectacle was more than entertainment, it was a platform for global unity and philanthropy. Produced alongside Global Citizen, the show launched the new FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million to improve children’s access to education worldwide .

Her presence, alongside continental heavyweights, underscored a historic moment for African representation in global entertainment. As the flagbearer for Afrobeats on such a massive stage, Tems now joins the legacy of global icons like Shakira and J Lo who previously graced FIFA stages .
