The Ghana Armed Forces has expressed deep regret following a tragic stampede that occurred on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, in commencing the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters, preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was triggered by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and rushed into the gates ahead of the scheduled screening around 6:20a.m.

The unfortunate incident resulted in the death of six potential recruits, with several others sustaining injuries. The injured individuals are currently receiving emergency medical care at the 37 Military Hospital. The Ghana Armed Forces assured the general public that medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilise those affected, and that arrangements are underway to notify the families of the deceased.
The Ghana Armed Forces extended its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
The Accra recruitment exercise has been put on hold until further notice, with new dates to be communicated later.
