Nigerian Afro-fusion artiste BNXN, formerly known as Buju, is gearing up to release his highly anticipated sophomore album, CAPTAIN, in July 2025. Following the success of his 2023 debut album SINCERELY, BENSON, which featured hits like PIDGIN & ENGLISH and collaborations with 2Baba, Kizz Daniel, and Popcaan, BNXN aims to elevate his global presence with this new project.

The announcement, accompanied by vibrant promotional visuals, has sparked excitement among fans, calling it a “GO TIME” moment, hinting at the album’s potential to dominate the Afrobeat scene. While specific details like tracklists or featured artistes remain undisclosed, the album is expected to blend BNXN’s signature mix of Afrobeats and R&B.

BNXN’s rise from his 2018 debut single CATCH A VIBE to a leading voice in Afro-fusion has been meteoric, with his 2022 EP BAD SINCE ‘97 topping Nigeria’s Apple Music Album Chart and featuring heavyweights like Wizkid and Olamide. His lyrical dexterity and collaborations with global stars like Dave on the song PROPELLER and Burna Boy on the 2020 remix of L’ENU, have affirmed his influence.

Fans are expecting it to build on the storytelling and melodic prowess showcased in SINCERELY, BENSON, which debuted at No. 17 on the UK Afrobeats Chart. BNXN’s 2024 single PHENOMENA, peaking at No. 12 on the Official Charts, further raised expectations for his sophomore effort.

The artiste’s history of engaging fans through social media, as evidenced by his 2022 Twitter feud with Ruger over BAD SINCE ‘97, suggests CAPTAIN will be heavily promoted online. With no confirmed producers or features yet, speculation swirls about potential collaborations, possibly with artistes like Seyi Vibez, given their 2023 work together on GWAGWALADA. As BNXN continues to shape Afrobeat’s global narrative, Captain is poised to be a defining chapter, set to drop under his independent banner, reinforcing his status as a trailblazer.
