As the world marks Pink October, students from GH
Schools are stepping up to champion the fight against breast cancer through a
series of health–focused and empowering activities this month.
Today on Culture Daily, representatives from GH
Schools joined to share details of their Breast Cancer Awareness campaign and
how their student community contributes to the national dialogue on women’s
health.
According to Dr. Chris Aminarh, who is a regular health
professional on the show, eight out of ten women are likely to be affected by
breast cancer in one way or another. This is a statistic that continues to
spark urgency for awareness and education.
Hilda Yayra Doe, a lecturer at GH Cosmetology School,
noted that with about 80% of GH Schools’ student population being female,
October holds deep significance for them.
The initiative, led by the Women’s Commission of GH
Schools’ SRC, is themed Know Your Body, Protect Your Health. It seeks to
educate young women on the importance of early detection, regular screening and
self-care. Beyond awareness, the campaign emphasizes active participation.
The activities form part of the GH Schools SRC Week
Celebration, which officially kicks off on Monday, October 13.
The Celebration starts with a Health Talk & Breast
Cancer Screening (in collaboration with Midway Hospital), with other activities
like movie in the park, Gospel rock show, Entrepreneurship Seminar, DJ Bash and
Artiste Night to celebrate the end of the week.
The entrepreneurship seminar, part of the GH Ladies
Wing initiative, aims to equip young women with the business knowledge needed
to transform their vocational skills into sustainable careers.
Although the campaign focuses on women’s health, the
organizers stressed that the event is open to the general public including male
students.
The project has received support from 3Music TV,
Midway Hospital, and other corporate bodies, with more partners expected to be
announced in the coming days.
3Music TV is proud to support GH Schools in promoting
women’s health and empowerment.
As GH Media and its affiliates lead this movement,
they continue to remind students and the public alike that knowing your body is
the first step to protecting your health.
