Circle Traders Cash In On Black Stars’ World Cup Run

As Ghana’s Black Stars continue their World Cup campaign and keep hopes alive of making the nation proud, another group of Ghanaians is also celebrating victories of its own, traders selling jerseys and football merchandise.

At the bustling Circle market in Accra, football fever has translated into brisk business, with many traders reporting increased sales since the start of the tournament.

Shops and roadside stalls are filled with Ghana jerseys, scarves, caps and other Black Stars paraphernalia as supporters look for ways to show their patriotism and back the national team.

Traders say the demand for jerseys has risen significantly in recent weeks, with prices ranging between GH¢100 and GH¢350 depending on the quality, design and grade.

Several sellers who spoke to 3Music TV said they have been recording impressive sales as excitement around the World Cup continues to build.

According to them, customers have been purchasing jerseys not only for themselves but also for family members and friends as they prepare to watch Ghana’s matches.

Some traders explained that although they only ventured into selling football merchandise at the start of the World Cup, the business has exceeded their expectations.

They attributed the increase in sales to the patriotic spirit that often accompanies major football tournaments and the desire of many Ghanaians to identify with the national team.

Others noted that every Black Stars match brings an increase in customer traffic, with many fans rushing to buy jerseys and other items before kick-off.

The traders say the tournament has provided an important source of income and has created temporary business opportunities for many people in the informal sector.

For some of them, the World Cup season is one of the busiest periods of the year, offering a chance to make extra earnings amid prevailing economic challenges.

They are therefore hoping the Black Stars remain in the competition for as long as possible, believing that each additional match could translate into more sales.

The development highlights the economic ripple effects of major sporting events, where the excitement generated by football extends beyond the pitch to benefit small businesses and traders.

While millions of Ghanaians continue to rally behind the Black Stars in their quest for World Cup success, traders at Circle are equally cheering for the team, knowing that every step forward in the tournament could bring another boost to business.
