Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail and will remain in federal custody as he awaits sentencing following his July conviction on charges tied to the federal Mann Act.

On August 4th, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian rejected Combs’ request for a $50 million bond and strict pre-sentencing release conditions, including house arrest and electronic monitoring, stating that there were no “exceptional reasons” to justify his release.

Combs, 55, was convicted on July 2nd of two counts of transportation for prostitution, in violation of the Mann Act, a federal law prohibiting the transport of individuals across state lines for illicit sexual activities. However, he was acquitted of more serious charges including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking involving former romantic partners.

In his ruling, Judge Subramanian pointed to compelling evidence that included allegations of violence, coercion, and subjugation, asserting that the case did not qualify under the limited exceptions that would allow bail following such a conviction. The judge also cited Combs’s history of domestic abuse, substance use, and the potential risk to victims and accusers.

Prosecutors described Combs as having run a network of drug-fueled “freak-off” parties, where male escorts were allegedly coerced, while the defense painted the events as consensual encounters within a swingers lifestyle. Notably, Virginia “Gina” Huynh, Combs’s ex-girlfriend—referred to during trial as “Victim-3”—submitted a letter supporting his release, but the court ruled it insufficient to counterbalance the serious concerns raised.
