Ghanaian music icon Gasmilla has opened up about the challenges of being boxed into a single identity, despite his versatility and long-standing influence on the industry. In a conversation with 3MusicTV, the King of Azonto revealed that labels have at times limited how people engage with his artistry.

According to him, even after more than a decade in the industry, many still narrow his brand to only Ga music or Azonto, overlooking the dynamic range he continues to showcase. He added “For the past 12 years that I’ve been around professionally, a lot of people still put me in a certain box. They say Gasmilla is Ga musician and that’s the label they give me,” he explained. “Even when they want to upgrade that, they still keep me in that same box.”

He stressed that music is a fluid art form that cannot be restricted saying “Even when they know I’m versatile, they still keep me there. But there is no box. Music is dynamic and you can pick inspiration from everywhere,” he added.

Gasmilla’s latest single, SOMETIMES I FEEL LOST, marks a refreshing shift in artistic direction, unveiling a more introspective side of him that many listeners may not have encountered before.

Beyond his music, Gasmilla has been creating platforms often outside the spotlight to uplift emerging talents. In his own small but meaningful ways, he continues to mentor, collaborate with, and guide young artistes, especially those who come from communities where opportunities are rare.

With SOMETIMES I FEEL LOST, Gasmilla reminds the music world that he cannot and should not be confined to a single sound or identity.
