Ghanaian Neo-Noir Film TWO Enters Production

Ghanaian Neo-Noir Film TWO Enters Production
A Neo-Noir film

Production is underway on TWO, a Ghanaian neo-noir film directed by Nana Kofi Asihene and slated for release in summer 2026.

TWO follows Marcus, a man who is struggling to shake off his past and embrace his new identity as an upstanding Christian man. The film sits within the neo-noir genre, stories that are centred on morally conflicted anti-heroes whose desperate choices often deepen their entanglement.

Describing the film in an exclusive conversation with 3Music TV, Asihene explains that neo-noir characters are often “characters that are trapped in difficult situations and often make choices out of desperation and these choices further trap them.”

The story, he says, was inspired by the inner conflict many people live with daily. “The story came from that quiet split we all live with, who we are on the surface and who we really are underneath,” he notes, adding that the film reflects a moment of heightened moral and emotional pressure in society. “This film felt like a mirror we needed, not to give answers, but to ask honest questions.”

At its core, TWO explores duality. “Who are we when there is no one there to watch our actions?” Asihene asks. The neo-noir genre, he says, allows the film to examine uncomfortable but familiar choices. “What do we do when, in our pursuit of the right thing, we make all the wrong choices?”

Beyond its setting and cast, the film’s Ghanaian identity is anchored in sound. “Ghana is known for our music and our soundscape, and we incorporated that right from the first scene to the last,” he says, revealing that the film features commissioned original music alongside licensed tracks from Ghanaian musicians.

The film stars Gideon Boakye in the lead role, a casting decision informed by what Asihene describes as “a raw intensity and simmering tension” that made the performance impossible to ignore.

Currently in production, TWO is expected to roll out teasers, behind-the-scenes content, and interviews ahead of its mid-2026 release. The team also hopes the project will inspire more industry-wide collaboration. “One person can’t do it alone. If we push each other, the Ghanaian film renaissance we talk about will happen,” Asihene adds.
