Ghanaian musician Article Wan has clarified a long-running narrative about his standing in the music industry, saying he does not consider himself underrated, rather, he feels highly appreciated by those who truly understand his craft, impact and consistency.
Speaking on 3Music TV’s Culture Daily, Article Wan noted that although conversations around recognition often arise, he chooses to measure his worth by personal milestones, market response and how audiences engage with his work, not by comparison or industry noise.
“I don’t see myself as underrated. I’m appreciated. According to him, the belief that an artiste needs dramatic visibility or mainstream hype to be respected is misleading. True value, he argued, lies in the work’s longevity, cultural relevance and the loyalty of a core fanbase that supports music beyond trends.
Article Wan emphasised the importance of consistency over chasing validation.
He explained that while some newer artistes may capture instant attention, the test of time separates momentary buzz from true contribution. “It’s not always about trending. It’s about staying and building. I’ve been here, and I’m still here,” he added.
He also highlighted that appreciation doesn’t always show up in viral moments or social media conversations; sometimes, it’s seen in bookings, streams, long-term fan support and legacy.
According to him, the quiet support from audiences who show up, stream, buy and engage is more meaningful than public narratives that may not reflect reality.
Instead of fighting the narrative or seeking validation, Article Wan says he is focused on growth, collaboration and expanding his reach across Africa and beyond.
