On Friday, the National Film Authority (NFA) unveiled the winners of the Script Bank Project, an initiative aimed at promoting young talent and fostering storytelling within Ghana’s movie industry. Themed around Ananse stories, the project culminated in a ceremony held at the Accra Tourism and Information Center.

Out of over 300 scripts submitted by writers under the age of 25, three outstanding entries were awarded cash prizes:

1st Place: The Seamless Heist by Nana Akosua Asieduaa Asare (¢5,000)
2nd Place: Meet KWAKU Ananse by Adusei Gabriel Kwarteng (¢3,000)
3rd Place: The African Messiah by Kobby Owusu Cole (¢2,000)

In addition to announcing the top three winners, the NFA revealed the top 10 writers selected to undergo specialized training. These writers will contribute to the NFA’s Script Bank, a resource pool designed to provide quality scripts for the local film industry.

The initiative, which highlights the creativity of Ghanaian youth, aims to revive and celebrate traditional storytelling while equipping emerging writers with industry-relevant skills.

Speaking at the event, CEO  of the  NFA, Madam Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante  stated, “The Script Bank Project is part of our efforts to empower the next generation of storytellers and create a robust pipeline of stories that reflect our culture and heritage. The talent we’ve seen here today is a testament to the bright future of Ghanaian cinema.”

The Script Bank Project not only celebrates the legacy of Ananse stories but also serves as a platform for nurturing young writers, ensuring their voices are heard in the global film landscape.
