“We Deserved a Grammy Nomination – But It Wasn’t Our Time Yet”: MOLIY’s Manager Reflects on a Transformative Year

In a heartfelt and strikingly honest Substack post, Therese Ohemaa Jones, manager of Ghanaian rising star MOLIY, has opened up about the whirlwind year that reshaped the trajectory of the Wondergirl & Co. team. Blending gratitude, frustration, pride and unwavering ambition, Jones paints a vivid picture of what it means to build an African artiste for the global stage without losing the essence of who she is.

Spanning airport lounges, backstage corners and late-night calls across Accra, Jamaica, Los Angeles, New York, Barbados and London, the manager describes the past year as one long, unfolding chapter one that revealed just how far MOLIY can truly go.
Reflecting on the transition from 2024 into 2025, Jones highlights the cultural and commercial impact of SHAKE IT TO THE MAX, the single that shifted conversations around MOLIY’s artistry.

The success brought newfound global attention. Fans from multiple continents created communities around her sound and industry figures who once overlooked her suddenly began paying attention. According to Jones, these moments confirmed what they had long believed MOLIY is becoming one of the defining voices of her generation.

Jones dedicated a significant portion of her post to acknowledging fanbase.

To critics, she offered gratitude saying “Every doubt sharpened us. Every dismissal motivated us. When MOLIY is nominated, it will be because she earned it. When she wins, it will be because she transformed something.”

For Jones, the conversation around Grammy nominations is just one moment in a much larger journey one anchored in intention, patience and legacy.
