Universal Pictures has finally released the highly anticipated official trailer for the big-screen adaptation of the smash Broadway musical, WICKED. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film promises to captivate audiences with its fantastic visuals and powerhouse performances by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the lead roles.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the magical Land of Oz, where Grande stars as Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, and Erivo portrays Elphaba, the iconic Wicked Witch of the West. The story follows the unlikely friendship between the two witches, forged during their time as students at Shiz University, and their diverging paths after an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Music takes center stage in the trailer, featuring the showstopper DEFYING GRAVITY, performed by Grande and Erivo bringing the beloved musical to life on the silver screen.
The film is a two-part adaptation, with the first installment hitting theaters on November 27, 2024, and the second part scheduled for release on November 26, 2025.
WICKED also stars Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero.
