Ghanaian DJ and producer DJ Shagy says the inclusion of his song on the soundtrack of FIFA Heroes should encourage more local musicians to pursue international opportunities, insisting that talent from Ghana can compete on the global stage.
Speaking on the Culture Daily Morning Show on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM, the artiste said he never expected his song, Bounce, to progress through the various stages of the selection process organised through the Pete Tong DJ Academy.
“When I saw that list, I was like, ‘Oh, okay, I don’t think my song is going to make it,’” he said, referring to the competition’s shortlist, which included producers and musicians from several countries.
DJ Shagy explained that after the song met the technical requirements, it advanced through multiple stages before eventually receiving FIFA’s approval for inclusion in the game.
The DJ said the achievement demonstrates that opportunities exist for African creatives who are willing to keep pushing their work beyond local boundaries.
“For whoever is out there, anything can happen. It’s just about putting in work and just going for it,” he said.
According to him, the recognition is particularly significant because he and collaborator KVPEL are the only African artistes featured on the project.
“On the other side, it will make a very good story that Africa is on the map. We are the only Africans on the project,” he said.
The achievement, he added, is about more than financial gain and serves as a major career milestone.
“It makes a very good milestone for both KVPEL and I in whatever we are doing,” he said.
The song is currently available exclusively through the FIFA Heroes game and is expected to be released on streaming platforms in the coming months.
Shagy said the experience should inspire more Ghanaian musicians to continue creating and seeking opportunities internationally, adding that “at a blink of an eye, your song can be in FIFA.”
