China-based Ghanaian artiste Kadima says he is looking to collaborate with some of Ghana’s biggest music stars as he seeks to expand his growing career from China to the international stage.
The Ashaiman-born artiste, who has been based in China for about eight years, named artistes including Sarkodie, Gyakie and Cina Soul among others as musicians he hopes to work with.
Speaking on the Culture Daily morning show on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM, Kadima revealed that he and his musical partner, Harikiri, have already reached out to Ghanaian rapper Medikal for a possible collaboration on their latest single, BAM.
“Everyone seems to be saying that we need to get Medikal on this one,” he said.
Kadima’s musical journey began at the age of 12 after he developed an interest in music while growing up in Ashaiman.
He said he was exposed to different genres, including coupé-décalé, hip-hop and traditional Ghanaian music, which influenced his sound.
Although he moved to China primarily to study, the musician said music eventually found him.
For the first three years, he focused on improving his songwriting while pursuing his education. He later became involved in China’s growing hip-hop scene after collaborating with local artistes and producers.
According to him, his breakthrough came after appearing on a song with one of China’s leading drill artistes.
“Everyone was like, ‘Who is this black boy?’” he recalled.
Kadima is currently pursuing a master’s degree in business management but says he remains committed to balancing his studies with music.
The artiste and Harikiri recently released BAM and say they have several more songs in the pipeline, including a forthcoming track titled Worldwide.
The pair hope their music can gain recognition in Ghana and beyond as they continue building their careers from China.
