Ghanaian artistes DJ Shagy and KVPEL say their appearance on the FIFA Heroes soundtrack is evidence that Afro-electronic music from Ghana can reach global audiences and open new opportunities for local musicians.
The two musicians, who blend Afrobeats with electronic dance music, believe the genre remains largely unexplored in Ghana despite its international appeal.
“I really want to be on this global platform, not only Ghana,” KVPEL said during an interview on the Culture Daily Morning Show on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM.
The singer described himself as a creative person who enjoys experimenting with sounds and combining different musical influences.
DJ Shagy, who won House Music DJ of the Year last year, said the international electronic music scene has inspired him to create a distinctly Ghanaian sound by remixing local songs with Afro-house and Afro-tech elements.
“The whole concept of Baptism is to baptise people in the sound,” he said, referring to his music experience and event series dedicated to promoting Afro-electronic music.
The FIFA Heroes achievement has also strengthened their belief that Ghanaian musicians can compete internationally.
“At a blink of an eye, your song can be in FIFA,” Shagy said.
He added that the success of Bounce should encourage other musicians to keep pursuing international opportunities.
For KVPEL, the project has reinforced his desire to continue developing Afro-electronic music and introducing more listeners to the genre.
The artistes are preparing to release new music in the coming months and are also planning separate live experiences, including DJ Shagy’s Baptism events and the upcoming KVPEL House Experience, both aimed at expanding Ghana’s electronic music culture.
