Round of 32 Beckons as Ghana Sets Date with Colombia

Ghana have qualified for the Round of 32 of the World Cup despite their 2-1 defeat to Croatia, finishing third in Group L with four points.

The Black Stars advanced on goal difference after a dramatic group campaign that included a victory over Panama, a goalless draw with England and a narrow loss to Croatia.

Their reward is a last-32 meeting with Colombia at Kansas City Stadium on Saturday, July 4.

Colombia topped Group K with seven points after recording two wins and a draw to remain unbeaten in the group stage.

The South Americans impressed with a disciplined defensive display, conceding only one goal in three matches while also showing attacking quality through Luis Díaz and Jhon Durán.

Their place at the top of the group had already been secured before their final game, allowing head coach Néstor Lorenzo to rotate his squad.

Although Colombia will enter the knockout tie as favourites, Ghana have shown they can compete with some of the tournament's strongest teams.

The Black Stars held England to a goalless draw and remained in contention against Croatia until the closing stages of their final group game.

The meeting in Kansas City will be Ghana's first appearance in the knockout rounds of the tournament and offers Carlos Queiroz's side an opportunity to extend an already resilient campaign.

For Colombia, the match presents a chance to continue their impressive run and move a step closer to matching their quarter-final appearance at the 2014 World Cup.
