Popular Ghanaian social media personality Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, has filed a lawsuit against the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Ministry of the Interior, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the Attorney-General and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), alleging unlawful arrest, detention and violations of his fundamental human rights.
The suit was filed on Thursday February 5, 2026, at the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra, where the influencer is seeking GH₵10 million in damages for what he describes as unconstitutional treatment following his arrest in December 2025.
According to court documents, Abu Trica contends that his arrest and subsequent detention were carried out without due process and in breach of constitutional safeguards. He alleges that he was subjected to physical and psychological distress, denied access to legal counsel and coerced during interrogations. The suit further claims that individuals introduced to him as FBI agents participated in questioning him on Ghanaian soil without lawful authority or proper judicial oversight.

The plaintiff also accuses the state agencies involved of unlawfully seizing his personal property, including electronic devices and other valuables, without proper documentation or court authorization. Additionally, he challenges public statements allegedly made by EOCO describing him as a “notorious cyber-criminal,” arguing that such remarks violated his right to the presumption of innocence.
Abu Trica maintains that the actions of the respondents contravene Articles 14, 15 and 19 of the 1992 Constitution, which guarantee personal liberty, protection from torture or degrading treatment and the right to a fair trial.
Beyond the monetary compensation, the lawsuit seeks several reliefs from the court, including orders restraining the respondents from using any evidence obtained through what he describes as coercive methods, as well as an injunction preventing any attempt to extradite or deport him while the case remains pending.
The case stems from a joint operation involving Ghanaian security agencies and international partners as part of investigations into alleged cyber-related offences. However, Abu Trica insists that regardless of the nature of the allegations, his constitutional rights were violated during the process.
The matter is expected to come before the court in the coming weeks, with legal analysts noting that the outcome could set an important precedent regarding the conduct of security agencies and the involvement of foreign law enforcement in domestic investigations.
