As the festive season draws near, the Culture Squad on Culture Daily turned its attention to an increasingly urgent topic, drug and alcohol abuse. Tuesday’s edition of the show, which traditionally focuses on health conversations, featured renowned health professional Dr. Chris Aminarh, who broke down the realities of alcohol consumption and its effects on the human body.
Dr. Aminarh highlighted several key facts that many overlook when enjoying alcoholic beverages. He explained that the more alcohol you consume, the more impaired your liver becomes, stressing that the liver can only process so much before becoming overwhelmed.
He also revealed that alcohol has the ability to break the barrier between your blood and your brain, a critical point that underscores why intoxication severely affects judgment, coordination and mental clarity.
Another widely misunderstood fact Dr. Aminarh corrected is the rate at which the body processes alcohol. According to him, the body clears alcohol at a fixed rate of about 0.015% per hour, regardless of tricks or methods people claim speed up sobriety. “Whether you take coffee, eat, sleep, or drink water, your body still handles alcohol at that same natural pace,” he emphasized.
The Culture Squad also touched on the common party myth that mixing different alcoholic beverages increases or decreases their effect. Dr. Aminarh clarified firmly that mixing drinks does not change the percentage of alcohol your body receives, it only changes the way people consume it, often leading to higher intake.
With the festive period known for high social activity and alcohol use, Tuesday’s edition served as a timely reminder. The Culture Daily team encouraged listeners to make responsible choices, prioritize their health and stay informed.
As celebrations approach, conversations like this highlight the need for awareness, because understanding what alcohol truly does to the body is the first step toward safer enjoyment.
