Dr. Aminarh Highlights Measles' Deadly Reach, Calls for Vaccination
Dr. Chris Aminarh, a medical expert featured on 3Music TV’s Big Conversation, emphasized the critical importance of measles vaccination, highlighting its ability to prevent millions of deaths globally. According to Dr. Aminarh, between 2000 and 2021, measles vaccines prevented approximately 56 million deaths worldwide.
Measles, a highly contagious viral infection, can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person coughs, making it a significant public health threat. Dr. Aminarh recounted a striking incident from the 1991 Special Olympics in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, where an athlete’s cough at the entrance led to infections 30 meters away, demonstrating the virus’s alarming airborne spread.
He urged parents to ensure their children receive the recommended measles shots at nine and 18 months, as part of the WHO’s Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). “Show up and get it done,” Dr. Aminarh stressed, noting that these vaccinations are free and essential for herd immunity.
