Elon Musk Launches America Party, Breaks With Trump After 65% X Poll Support
Elon Musk
Billionaire entrepreneur and tech magnate Elon Musk has officially announced the formation of a new political entity called the America Party, marking a sharp pivot away from former ally Donald Trump and the Republican establishment.

On July 4th, Musk ran a poll on his social media platform X, asking more than 1.2 million followers if they desired independence from the two-party system. Over 65% voted “yes”, with the percentage noted at 65.4% in some reports   . The next day, Musk declared, “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom”.

The announcement follows months of increasingly public tension between Elon Musk and Trump, centered on dissatisfaction with the recently signed “One Big Beautiful Bill”, a $4 trillion-plus spending and tax-cut package that Musk sharply criticized  . Trump responded by labeling Musk as having “gone off the rails” and hinted at punitive actions including possible contract rescissions and even deportation threats.

Elon Musk clarified that the America Party will not target the presidency immediately, instead zeroing in on 2–3 Senate seats and 8–10 House districts, aiming to influence key legislative votes in a tightly balanced Congress. This mirrors a strategic approach described by Musk as “concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield”.

Though not yet formally registered with the Federal Election Commission, the party is expected to emphasize:
Fiscal conservatism and deficit reduction
Military modernization through AI and robotics
Deregulation, enhanced freedom of expression, and pro-natalist policies

Figures like Mark Cuban and Anthony Scaramucci have already expressed interest in supporting the party and aiding ballot access efforts  . Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that corporate boards would likely prefer Musk to focus on business rather than politics.

Elon Musk’s political turn has sparked investor unease—Tesla shares dropped about 7% following the announcement, adding to a 20%-plus decline year-to-date. Analysts warn that Musk’s focus on politics could detract from Tesla’s business momentum and risk alienating consumers.

Elon Musk’s founding of the America Party, driven by grassroots polling signals a decisive break from Trump-era politics. Whether this venture can transcend the entrenched two-party system remains uncertain, but Musk’s deep pockets, tech-driven ideology, and intense media spotlight ensure it’s a story worth watching.
