Gov't Declares Friday, July 3 A Public Holiday

Government has restored the Republic Day holiday and declares Friday, July 3, 2026 a public holiday to mark Ghana's full transition to a republic. 

A statement issued on Wednesday June 24, by the Ministry of the Interior, noted that the holiday which is usually commemorated on July 1, falls on a Wednesday this year. 

However, Friday, July 3, 2026, has been declared as the official national holiday to be commemorated nationwide by President John Dramani Mahama through an Executive Order.

The declaration is in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Data Act, 2001 (Act 601) as amended. 

Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed signed the statement, mandating the holiday to be observed nationwide.

Republic Day is marked every year in Ghana as part of the country's statutory public holidays to commemorate when the country achieved a republican status in July 1, 1960.
