The Harmonious Chorale, Ghana’s premier gospel and classical choir, has returned to a hero’s welcome in Accra following a groundbreaking 10-day West African tour across Togo, Benin, and Nigeria from April 25 to May 5, 2025. Under the leadership of founder James Varrick Armaah, the 60-member choir captivated thousands with their masterful blend of classical, traditional, and contemporary African choral music, earning standing ovations and forging cultural connections. The tour, described as a “cultural renaissance on wheels,” showcased the choir’s vocal prowess and reaffirmed music’s power to unite diverse communities, leaving an indelible mark on the region’s cultural landscape.

The tour kicked off in Lomé, Togo, with soul-stirring performances of Ewe classics like ESROM MIELE by Ephraim Amu, followed by a collaborative showcase in Benin with La Chorale Paix Divine De Godomey, featuring Armaah’s composition OYE and French classical pieces. The finale in Nigeria was a highlight, with a sold-out Shell Hall Grand Concert in Lagos, where a Ghana-Nigeria fusion of songs like  MESSIAH BABA MI and the pidgin anthem UNA HEAR ME SO electrified audiences.

Notable figures, including Nigeria’s Sir Olu Okeowo and Archbishop Dr. Daniel Okoh, praised the choir’s mission, with Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, Chairman of the choir’s Board, calling the tour “a movement” for African unity and progress. Social media buzz echoed this sentiment, with fans lauding the choir as “Africa’s pride” and a beacon of cultural diplomacy.

Founded in 2007, Harmonious Chorale has long been a trailblazer, with accolades like the 2018 World Choir Games championship and multiple Ghana Gospel Music Awards. This tour fortifies their legacy as global ambassadors of African choral music, having mentored countless groups and performed over 35 concerts in Ghana alone.

As they return, the choir is gearing up for their 17th anniversary concert, Symphonies and Steps, on October 19, 2025, at Wesley Towers in Accra, promising to build on the tour’s momentum. Their homecoming underscores Ghana’s rich musical heritage and the choir’s unwavering commitment to excellence, inspiring a new generation to celebrate Africa’s shared cultural wealth.
