Pete Edochie Debunks Death Rumours Again, Says “I’m Alive and Well”
Pete Edochie
Veteran Nollywood icon Pete Edochie has once again dismissed widespread rumours of his death, expressing frustration over what he describes as a recurring and baseless hoax that has trailed him for years.

The latest false claim adds to a long list of similar reports dating back to 2012, with fabricated stories alleging that the revered actor died abroad or perished in accidents. Now 78, the screen legend says he has been falsely declared dead no fewer than seven times.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with Vanguard, Edochie firmly debunked the rumours.

“I’m alive and will die when my maker calls me home, I have been killed about seven times. There was a time they said I travelled abroad and died there. At other times, they said that the plane I boarded from Enugu to Ethiopia suddenly crashed and I didn’t survive.”he said

The actor, fondly called Ebubedike by fans for his iconic roles in Nollywood classics, remains active and widely celebrated within the industry. Over the years, he has received several prestigious honours, including the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and the AMVCA Industry Merit Award, in recognition of his immense contribution to African cinema.

Edochie also recounted how the false reports have affected his family. He revealed that on one occasion, his wife was preparing for church when she received a phone call from someone claiming he had passed away that morning.

“Last year, somebody from Ghana alleged that Pete Edochie was already in the grave,” he added.

Looking ahead, the celebrated actor is set to mark his 79th birthday on March 7. He attributed his vitality and resilience to a family history of longevity.

“My father died at 96, so we have longevity in my family,” he said confidently.

Despite the persistent hoaxes, Pete Edochie remains standing tall, alive, active and continuing to command respect as one of Nollywood’s most enduring and legendary figures.
