The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally announced the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III. The announcement was made today during a meeting of the Asanteman Council, where the King broke the news to chiefs and elders of the Ashanti Kingdom.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who served as the Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, was the biological sister of the Asantehene. Her tenure was marked by her influence in the preservation of Ashanti cultural traditions, her guidance in chieftaincy matters, and her role as a symbol of unity among the people.
The official statement did not disclose details regarding funeral arrangements, but the announcement paves the way for traditional rites of mourning to be observed across the Ashanti Kingdom. Her passing marks the end of an era, as she was a deeply respected figure whose leadership and counsel shaped the kingdom’s affairs in recent decades.
