Mahama Reaffirms Commitment to Free SHS Policy

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has pledged his unwavering support for Ghana’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, dismissing rumors that his incoming administration intends to abolish the initiative.

Speaking during a recent engagement, Mahama described such claims as baseless propaganda, emphasizing his commitment to sustaining and improving the program, which aims to provide accessible education for all Ghanaian students.

“The Free SHS policy is here to stay,” Mahama assured. “Our focus will be on addressing its challenges, including infrastructure deficits, overcrowding, and quality delivery, to make it more effective and sustainable.”

His comments aim to ease concerns among parents and students about the future of the initiative. Mahama also highlighted the critical role of education in national development and pledged to collaborate with stakeholders to refine and strengthen the program for future generations.

As Mahama prepares to assume office, many Ghanaians are optimistic that his administration will prioritize equitable access to quality education while addressing systemic issues to enhance the Free SHS policy’s long-term impact.
