Ogee The MC Pushes for Ghana’s Music Scene to Expand Beyond Accra
OGEE THE MC

Ghana’s music industry needs to break out of its Accra bubble, says Ogee The MC, the dynamic hypeman for dancehall star Stonebwoy. In a conversation on 3Music TV’s Big Conversation, Ogee called for major music events and concerts to spread to cities like Kumasi and Takoradi, arguing it’s the key to unlocking talent across the country.
Ogee didn’t mince words, pointing out that Accra’s chokehold on the industry limits opportunities for artists in other regions. “Unless we can actually move certain events to other cities outside Accra, it doesn’t really have to be in the capital all the time,” he said, as reported by Ghana Music. He gets why Accra’s the hub—press, promotions, and big venues are all there—but he’s convinced decentralizing would shine a spotlight on regional talent. “Talents can be where they are and still run their stuff, but sometimes they gotta visit the capital,” he added, suggesting a balance between local growth and Accra’s resources.
Industry insiders are taking note too, with promoters in Takoradi already floating ideas for regional festivals. But not everyone’s sold. Some Accra-based organizers argue the capital’s infrastructure makes it the only practical spot for big shows, citing logistics and costs.
Ogee’s push comes as Ghana’s music scene explodes globally, with stars like Stonebwoy packing venues like London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire. If the industry listens, cities like Kumasi could become the next hotbed for talent, giving Ghana’s music a broader, bolder reach.
